About Us
Studio Rolnicka was founded in 1978 by its director, Karel Virgler. Today, the entire ensemble comprises approximately 290 young singers aged 5 to 20 years. All children are divided into five groups by skill and age, with the Touring Choir encompassing forty-five of the best singers between 10 and 20 years of age. Very popular is also our Young Men Choir consisting of boys with changed voices. Piano and organ accompanying by Vojtech Seidl, Alina Martynova and Filip Martinka, manager is Hana Virglerová.
Every year, Rolnicka performs thirty to forty concerts, both across the Czech Republic and abroad. These include performances at festivals, charitable concerts and other events, held in a variety of venues ranging form large concert halls to sacred spaces. The choir both participates in and organizes diverse and unique projects. It cooperates with orchestras, notable soloists and with other choirs. The children especially enjoy participating in exchanges and joint concerts, inviting choirs and orchestras from abroad to their home city of Prague.
In recent years, the choir has earned international acclaim while performing in nearly all European countries and completing three successful tours oversees. For its quality of sound, the choir has received a number of awards at prestigious international choir competitions.
Rolnicka’s ultimate goal is to bring its audiences delight through music, and to present the finest of Czech choral art abroad. Through their concerts and tours, the children and conductor wish to share their cultural traditions and foster bonds of friendship across international boundaries.
Rolnicka Praha sings classical and contemporary Czech and Europe choral music, both sacred and secular, and Czech and foreign folk songs. They like to sing also wellknown popular melodies.
